Sardinia is an island in the middle of the Mediterrenean sea. It has Italy at it´s east, Corsica to it´s north, Tunisia to it´s south and the Balearic Islands to it´s west. It´s surface covers 24,090 kms and it´s population is over 1.600.000. It is the second largest island in the Mediterrenean after Sicily.

Sardinia is an autonomous region. It´s capital Cagliari is located in the south of this beautiful island. It is divided in 8 provinces being; Cagliari (it´s capital), Sassari, Nuoro, Oristano, Olbia-Tempio, Ogliastra, Carbonia-Iglesias, and Medio Campidano. Each province has something special and should be explored.

This island is highly visited due to it´s emerald crystal waters, beaches and coves. It is also very visited by those interested in history as there are many archeological remains. Nuragues are the most typical and characteristic of this island.
Sardinia was first conquered by the phoenicians, and then the cartigineans, romans, bizantine, arabs, and the Crown of Aragón.

Tourism is a big part of this island, but the Emerald Coast and Gennargentu are the main spots people visit.
