Festivities
Sardinia is a very traditional island.

Sardinia is a very traditional island. They hold true to their Sardo roots and maintain very old festivities. They are very diverse since they keep true to the many civilizations that have roamed these lands. From pagan myths to Christian beliefs.

These events allow the visitors to learn about a culture whose authenticity is unique in today´s world. We´ll begin by the first celebration of the year...

Carnival: It is held in the month of February, and the entire island participates in this huge celebration. Where they are most celebrated though are in the mountainous regions.

The Sartiglia: This is an incredible and impressive horseback riding event that is held during carnival. The horsemen come masked with swords and must pierce the iron star while galloping. This is complicated matter, and in earlier times the more stars they pierced the safer the town that depended on these horsemen was.

Sant Efisio: This is the best known religious festival in Sardinia. Dating all the way back to the 17th century this has been celebrated on the first of May. People come from all over the island to participate in the 40 kilometer pilgrimage from Cagliari to St. Efisio. It is surely a spectacle to see.

Easter: The most important religious holiday of the year. They call it "Sa Pasca Manna" meaning big easter festival. Christmas is considered the small easter festival. They call it the Paschixedda. They have many incredibly beautiful processions to watch. Definately and unforgettable experience.

There are many more festivals that belong to each individual town celebrating their patron saints. There is always something going on in one place or another. Come and enjoy all of the fun, and get a taste of this unique and traditional culture!
